Black women take home statement victories on Election Night in Pittsburgh

Tuesday night, May 20, was Election Night in the state of Pennsyl­vania, and in the race for Pittsburgh Public School Board Directors and judges on the Court of Common Pleas, many Black women claimed victories on the Demo­cratic side.

In the judicial races, Amanda Green-Haw­kins secured the most Democratic votes with over 93,000, which was 13,000 more than the second person, Dan Mill­er. Quita Bridges also secured her spot, com­ing in third with roughly 80,000 votes.

For the Pittsburgh Pub­lic School Board of Directors, Tawana Cook Pur­nell won the Democratic bid for District 1. Erikka Grayson won the Demo­cratic bid for District 3. And Tracey Reed won the Democratic bid for District 5.
