Allegheny County reported nine new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the total to 2,122. County health officials reported no new fatalities, leaving the county tally at 177. Four new hospitalizations were reported, with a total of 361 past and present hospitalizations, to date. The new cases come one day after the county — for the first time in three months — went 24 hours with no new reported cases.
Pennsylvania counted 418 more COVID-19 infections Thursday, pushing the state case total to more than 80,000 since Gov. Tom Wolf announced the first COVID-19 cases on March 6. To date, 80,236 Pennsylvanians have been infected with the novel coronavirus. Roughly 6,060 cases are among healthcare workers.
State health officials also announced 42 new COVID-related fatalities, bringing the death toll to 6,361.
Personal care and nursing homes continue to bear the brunt of the infections, with residents and workers representing roughly one in five of all cases. Resident deaths account for nearly seven in 10 fatalities.
