Allegheny County reported seven new cases, no new deaths on Monday, June 15.
Pennsylvania crept closer Monday to hitting a new milestone: nearly 80,000 COVID-19 infections since Gov. Tom Wolf announced the first cases on March 6. Pennsylvania’s Department of Health [DOH] reported 323 new COVID-19 infections and 28 deaths Monday, bringing the statewide tally to 79,121 cases and 6,215 deaths. Residents and employees of nursing and personal care homes represent about one in four infections statewide. Residents of the facilities account for two of every three deaths in the state. Healthcare workers comprise 7.6% of Pennsylvania’s COVID infections.
- Pennsylvania’s long-term care facilities that have been hit hard by COVID-19 will receive staffing assistance for infection control from General Healthcare Resources, Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine announced Monday, June 15.
- Allegheny County’s COVID-19 Dashboard is now displaying more detailed information on race and ethnicity, Allegheny County Health Department Director Dr. Debra Bogen said in a statement on Friday, June 12. Bogen announced 27% of all COVID-19 cases in Allegheny County were among Black people, though Black people only comprise 13% of the county population. They also account for 31% of hospitalizations and 20% of deaths resulting from COVID-19.
- Pittsburgh’s Department of Parks and Recreation will serve meals to children and the elderly at additional locations starting Monday, June 15, the city announced Thursday. Breakfast and lunch will be available to Pittsburgh youth through Aug. 31 at the Ammon Rec Center, Anderson Playground and Moore Park, among other sites. The Beechview, Greenfield and West End Healthy Active Living centers will also begin serving meals to the elderly on Monday, June 15.
