Pennsylvania’s number of infections reached 77,313 on Thursday, a single-day increase of 467 cases, health department officials announced. The state has also reported 51 deaths since Wednesday, bringing its total to 6,113. Those who have died in Pennsylvania have largely been 65 years old or older, the health department said in a press release.
Nursing home and personal care facilities have reported 19,228 total cases of COVID-19 across the state, with 16,357 residents and 2,871 employees contracting the virus. Allegheny County is among 45 counties that have reported infections within a total of 627 facilities. Nearly 70% of the state’s reported deaths, or 4,215, have been among those who reside in nursing homes and personal care facilities.
About 5,888 of the state’s reported infections are among healthcare workers. The state has seen 476,439 individuals test negative for the virus.
Allegheny County’s total number of COVID-19 infections went up to 2,055 on Thursday, an increase of 21 cases from the day before.
The county reported one death and two hospitalizations overnight, raising the total counts to 173 and 354, respectively. The ages of those who have died ranges from 42 to 103, with the median age being 84.
Pittsburgh’s Department of Parks and Recreation will serve meals to children and the elderly at additional locations starting Monday, June 15, the city announced Thursday.
The announcement comes as Pittsburgh Public Schools close Friday, June 12, for summer vacation, according to the release.
