Operations Engineer
Duolingo, Inc. seeks an Operations Engineer in Pittsburgh, PA to continuously improve Duolingo’s infrastructure through automation and monitoring, using and developing cutting-edge tools to enable growth and stability across all Duolingo services and platforms. Duties include: (i) automating the deployment and management of Duolingo’s software services utilizing knowledge of Linux system administration; (ii) monitoring Duolingo’s large-scale computer systems for performance and network security anomalies; (iii) streamlining operational and development practices utilizing knowledge of electrical engineering principles; (iv) analyzing current costs; and (v) planning for future growth. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field. One year of experience managing large software services/infrastructure. Experience must include: (i) Linux system administration and automation; (ii) computer network security, performance analysis, and capacity planning; (iii) configuration management (Ansible, Puppet, or Chef) or infrastructure management (Terraform or CloudFormation) tool(s); (iv) Docker containerization runtime system; (v) deploying and maintaining large-scale monitoring systems (Zabbix or Prometheus) and logging systems (ELK or Splunk); and (vi) Python and Bash scripting.
