THE POETRY WAS ON FULL DISPLAY at “Poetry Unplugged,” an annual poetry slam event at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, held this year on Jan. 17. Poets came from Columbus, Philadelphia, Detroit, New York City, and Georgia, while Jacquea Mae, seen in the top left photo, was born and raised right here in Pittsburgh. Mahogany Browne, Michael Bertram and Jessica Care Moore were also featured. More than 350 people packed the AWAACC for the evening affair. (Photos by Courier photographer J.L. Martello)
