Clairton High School students in grades 9-12 received Google Chromebooks to use during the school day as well as at home to do homework and research. The Chromebooks are part of Clairton City School District’s 1:1 initiative focusing on innovation and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The Chromebooks are Hewlett Packard and have 4 GB of memory and 16 GB of internal storage. Each Chromebook has nine hours of battery life when fully charged and students also have access to the Clairton City School District Unlimited Google storage. Students were provided with either an orange or black neoprene case to help protect their Chromebooks.
Throughout the year, students and teachers will utilize Google Classroom and other applications to collaborate online. Students will share information with teachers and peers and submit assignments electronically. All resources will be available for students at home.
Middle/High School Principal Thomas McCloskey said “the Chromebooks will allow teachers to differentiated instruction and will also assist in keeping students better engaged,” McCloskey continued by saying, “this 21st Century technology is going to help all of our students succeed and be more career and college ready.”
Students and teachers will use the Chromebooks to highlight STEM education while also focusing on writing and research. Students will also create digital portfolios. The Technology Initiative is aimed at empowering Clairton High School students by providing access to technological advancement.
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Ginny Hunt, Middle/High School Principal, Thomas McCloskey, and Director of Technology, Aaron Maricic spearheaded the Technology Initiative.
