Crete, Ill. (BlackNews.com)—Local author and teacher Evan Roberts of Crete, Ill, debut his new children’s book Khahari Discovers the Joy of Family recently as part of Empowered People Press’ children’s fiction line. The launch included a children’s fun day party with face-painting, balloon art, games and prizes. This event took   place at the Bronzeville Children’s Museum located in Chicago.
Roberts, a biology teacher at Homewood Flossmoor, has been working toward publication for two years. In addition, he is also the author of “How to Become Influential and Highly Successful: The Young Adult” Success Manual—a book aimed at teaching teens how to become leaders in their own lives.
The Khahari Discovers series explores the life of Khahari, a young, adventurous boy who learns just how fun and exciting his family can be. The story begins with Khahari’s birth and his family’s eager anticipation. The excitement, however, is quickly erased by the ever worrisome Mr. Fearful, who casts doubt, fear, and second-guessing on just about everything the family wants to do. Throughout the story, the family challenges Mr. Fearful, so Khahari can experience the joy of family.

“I continue to enjoy this book… overall, it is a very precious story,” says Lonnetta Albright, President of Forward Movement, Inc. “In almost every image, the parents are smiling, laughing, and enjoying life…,” adds Diane Donovan, Senior Reviewer of the Midwest Book Review.
Roberts cites his son Gavin and his experiences as a teacher, coach, father, and mentor as the major inspiration behind this new series. He expects this series to celebrate African American boys, family, and love, while encouraging early literacy. He is available for interviews and appearances.
