LHU students present research at State Health Conference

Lock Haven, Pa- Lock Haven University is celebratingĀ the outstanding achievements of twelve students who recently attended a state-wide health conference.
Seven Community Health, two Master of Health Science/Health Promotion & Education and one Clinical Mental Health Counseling student recently presented their work at the PA Public Health Association/PA Office of Rural Health Annual Conference, ā€œStrengthening the Health of PA: Addressing the Health Care & Public Health Needs of Vulnerable & Underserved Populations, held in Lancaster, PA on April 7.
Students worked in conjunction with community partners, primarily in Lycoming County, to address the most pressing community health issues facing our region. They presented their work at alongside a well credentialed group, consisting of primarily Ph.D. and M.D. experts in their respective fields. LHU faculty members Dr. Beth McMahon and Dr. Kristin Vincenzes also presented at the conference.
The list of students, their presentation titles, and community partners are as follows:
• Bianca Dao & Ryan Shields – ā€œJoin the Majority/Find Your Anti-Drugā€ – Community Partner (CP): Lycoming County Health Improvement Coalition/Youth Development Task Force and the Lycoming County School District.
• Kelsey Harris – ā€œThe Williamsport Home Wellness Program: Fall Preventionā€ – CP – Williamsport Nursing/Extended Care Home.
• Ashlyn Ricker – ā€œLycoming County Domestic Violence Fatality Review Boardā€ – CP – Judge Joy McCoy and the Lycoming County Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board of Directors.
• Laura Crawford (MHS/Health Prom/Ed) – ā€œComprehensive, community driven approach to addressing opioid epidemicā€- CP – Project Bald Eagle.
• Kellie Forziat (CMHC student) – ā€œOpioid epidemic: Personal insight from survivorsā€ – CP – Project Bald Eagle.
• Katie Leister & Marissa Haring – ā€œWellness initiative: Building heathy kidsā€ – CP – Lycoming County Health Improvement Coalition.
• Stephen Knechel & Laurie Welsh – ā€œDining with diabetesā€ – CP – Penn State University/Penn State Extension/Nutrition & Diet Health Team.
• Kelci Killian (MHS/Health Prom/Ed student) Pottsville Recreation Commission addressing socioeconomic disadvantaged youth – CP – Pottsville Recreation Commission.
