NEED is a non-profit organization that provides career and college access services which empower youth from the Pittsburgh area. NEED is the oldest community based non-profit minority higher education assistance program in Pennsylvania. NEED’s vision is to unlock the power of education by helping local youth meet their potential.
NEED is a nationally-recognized full-service college access program.
PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
•Last Dollar Grants
NEED’s flagship program awards nearly one million dollars a year to eligible students in order to fill the gaps when all local, state, and federal college funding sources have been exhausted. •Historical Black Colleges and Universities Educational Tour
The tour is designed to expose African American students earlier to campus life and the value of attending an institution of higher learning.
•African American Male Mentoring Initiative.
AAMMI provides mentoring to young males both one-on-one and on a group basis.
•Access To College and Career Education Program (ACE) Program
ACE advisors work with high school students to help them learn about career options. This serves as a supplement to the hard work of counselors, principals, and administrators.
•Workforce Diversity Internship Program
NEED has a talent pool of the best and brightest college-going youth from this region. NEED actively partners with local companies and corporations to provide internships for NEED recipients both pre- and post-graduation.
•STEM Program
The goal of this program is to increase the number of African American females in STEM fields  trips.
•Future NEED Scholars Program
The program connects girls ages 13-19, who are, or soon will be parents, with mentors, ensuring they will complete their high school education, become competent parents and go on to college.
