ATLANTA – The City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation recently celebrated the newly-renovated field at Anderson Park in Northwest Atlanta at a dedication ceremony.
The $1.9 million renovation, which includes $900,000 in Community Development Block Grant program funds and a $200,000 donation from the Atlanta Falcons to Park Pride, transformed the grass sports ground to a turf-surfaced field.
The upgraded field is more durable, requires less maintenance and will be usable in any weather conditions. Anderson Field renovations and other recent park improvements citywide are a part of Mayor Kasim Reed’s commitment to provide new recreational opportunities to Atlanta youth.
After the ceremony, the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation conducted a football clinic that focused on teaching football fundamentals and character-building skills with more than 150 Centers of Hope participants. “The Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to stewarding our City’s green spaces for generations to come,” said Amy Phuong, Commissioner for the department.
“We are so proud of the newly-renovated field and we will continue to work with the Atlanta business and philanthropic organizations to upgrade, expand and build other recreational facilities for our youth.”
This year, the Department of Parks and Recreation has acquired 171 acres of land,which included 14 parks for Atlanta residents and visitors to enjoy.
