Zola Mashariki, an executive at Fox Searchlight, has reportedly been chosen by BET Networks to be its Executive Vice President of original programming. She will be based in Los Angeles and fills the opening created when Loretha Jones departed the network last September.
Mashariki joins the team headed by Stephen Hill, named President of Programming in December, as part of a restructuring that began last fall. He oversees original programming, music programming and specials.
Prior to her position at Fox Searchlight, where she worked for 15 years, Mashariki was an attorney at Proskauer Rose LLP. She is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School, and the creator of the Black Film Initiative. BFI developed new business models for films targeting the African-American audience that including “The Secret Life of Bees” and “Notorious.”
