Business Opportunity Fair
    MAY 13—The Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council will host its 2015 Business Opportunity Fair from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Monroeville Convention Center, 209 Mall Blvd., Monroeville. The theme is “Connecting Relationships, Building Bridges, Gaining Wins.” This is an opportunity for certified MBEs and corporate purchasing representatives to network in an open forum. Besides developing new business relationships, it will also allow attendees to gain a better understanding of the needs of customers, and identify key areas of growth and prospects for strategic partnerships. The Second Step
    MAY 15—The University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center will host “The Second Step: Developing A Business Plan” from 7:30-10 a.m. at the University of Pittsburgh, Mervis Hall, Roberto Clemente Drive, Oakland. Attendees will learn all they need to about operational and production planning, conducting market research and creating financial spreadsheets to attract funding for one’s business. Entrepreneur’s Growth Conference
    MAY 15—The Duquesne University Small Business Development Center will host its Entrepreneur’s Growth Conference 2015 from 8:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m. at Duquesne University, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. This is a premier networking and informational event for Western Pennsylvania small businesses. There are more than 400 small business managers and owners that are expected to attend. The event’s keynotes speakers will be Rob Daley, CEO of 4moms, and Bill Sarris, president of Sarris Candies Inc. Registration is required. Gardens & Greenspaces
    MAY 20—The Business Institute of the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host Gardens & Greenspaces from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Koppers Building, 436 Seventh Ave., Downtown. The group will introduce the team from the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and they will discuss how to bring some of the beauty to one’s home or office. Registration is required by May 18.     MAY 21—The University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center will host “Finding Alternative Funding for Your Small Business: Local Lenders Showcase” from 7:30-10 a.m. at the University of Pittsburgh, William Pitt Union Assembly Room, Fifth Avenue, Oakland. This seminar will help individuals who are trying to identify new sources of capital to grow or start their business and introduce them to some of the local non-bank lenders in the region. Lunch and Learn Series
    MAY 21— The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host its Lunch & Learn Series at 12:15 p.m. at the Downtown & Business Branch, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic will be “How to Start and Grow Your Business Using A to Z Databases.” Christine Smailys, of A to Z Databases, will teach attendees how to use A to Z Databases to start and grow one’s business.
