PITTSBURGH (AP) _ The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s new president and CEO will be the youngest person and first woman to hold the position.
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra announced the hiring of 43-year-old Melia Peters Tourangeau (tor-ON-go) on May 4. She’ll start in August.
Symphony board member Tom Todd led the eight-month search process. He tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that Tourangeau will be a “breath of fresh air.”
Musicians’ committee chairman and bass player Micah Howard also voted for her. He says Tourangeau “believes in the art form.”
The orchestra has had persistent deficits and poor ticket sales in recent years.
