A memorial service for Pittsburgh native and popular DJ Wesley Goodman Jr. will be held Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 2325 Webster Ave., in the Hill District.
Goodman passed away Nov. 28 at his current residence in Campbell Hall, N.Y., he was 59 years old.
Born March 7, 1955 in Pittsburgh to Wesley and Gladys Goodman Sr., Goodman attended schools in the Pittsburgh Public School system before attending Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C., where he studied business. However music was always on his mind.
After college, Goodman returned to Pittsburgh and determined to forge a career in music. He started Mad Hatter Productions, a successful mobile DJ business. With his rich baritone voice, it was a natural fit that his first job in the music business was as an on air personality, DJ, and sales representative at WYEP and WRUA radio where he played everything from Miles Davis to Run-D.M.C.
By the mid 80s Goodman‘s career path led him to New York by way of the Catskill Mountains. His first position was as a sales manager and on-air weekend announcer at WSUL radio in Monticello, N.Y. He also became a full time mobile DJ in the Catskills working at the legendary mountain resorts: The Concord, Grossinger’s and The Raleigh Hotel.
