Assemble a non-profit organization; was founded by Nina Barbuto on April 2011. It specializes in youth, and providing young people with a source of educational development.
Assemble unites artists, technologists, and makers with Pittsburghers of all demographics by providing a platform for experimental learning, opening creative processes, and building confidence through making, its founderĀ  says.
ā€œWe are in the business of the future,ā€ Barbuto said. ā€œEvery kid or person who comes in our space to make something might make the next big thing. They themselves might inspire others to do something or make something too.ā€
Assemble hosts classes focusing on S.T.E.A.M. ā€œSteam,ā€ is acronym standing for science, technology, engineering, art, and math. These are the five principles of Assemble, and five aspects of learning that the students focus on through the program.
The non-profit organization exists to teach kids how to be users of technology. Through this program they are enabled to be creators of technology. Barbuto stresses that Assemble aims to help kids to be empowered by not just being consumers but producers, and always critically thinking about how they can advance or make technology better.
