Kelly Strayhorn Theater announces its spring 2015 season—a diverse selection of innovative programming from featuring community events, festivals, dance and theater performances, and Pittsburgh premieres.
“This season we’re thrilled to welcome Malpaso Dance Company from Havana, Cuba to Pittsburgh, as part of our World Stage Series,” Janera solomon, executive director at KST, said in a release.
“Not only is Malpaso’s upcoming performance timely in light of recent events but it furthers KST’s mission to be global citizens here in Pittsburgh. KST has collaborated to present and produce projects with 19 companies from 18 different countries, most recently Moroccan-based choreographer Hind Benali this past October.
“We strive to foster talent locally and internationally, celebrate diversity, and further the sustained growth of the East End as a cultural destination,” she said.
Let’s Move! Dance Parties are part of the KST Family series and are held four times throughout the
year. These unique events connect families through dancing, music, and activities in a fun and inviting
atmosphere.

about the Kelly Strayhorn theater
As the last of nine theaters from the 1950s heyday of East Liberty, the Kelly Strayhorn Theater uses the arts as a catalyst for continuing community revitalization. The theater, in its 12th season, continues to play a key role in the transformation of Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood. An intimate, professionally equipped, 350-seat multiple-use performance venue, the theater demonstrates its commitment to Pittsburgh artists and audiences. The KST is a favorite venue of emerging local artists, regional artists and arts organizations who take risks and present new work. Noted Pittsburghers Gene Kelly and Billy Strayhorn, the namesakes, are among the 80 area artists honored on the theater’s Gallery of Stars. The building, opening in 1914, is the former Regent Theatre, which served the East End as a movie house for eight decades.
