Pre-Black History Month Event
The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh presents its Pre-Black History Month 2015 Opening Event: Largest Library Line Dancing from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Carrick Branch, 1811 Brownsville Rd., Carrick. Black Fathers of American Folk Music
Calliope Folk Music Society presents “Black Fathers of American Folk Music: Lead Belly and Josh White” at 7:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Lecture Hall, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland. Josh White Jr. and Rev. Robert Jones will take the audience back in time with stories, conversations and songs about influential folk musicians—Huddie “Lead Belly” Ledbetter and Josh White. Josh White Jr. and Jones will be joined by Radoslav Lorkovic, a musician who uses his musical influences, which includes classical, jazz, blues, country and soul, and turns it into his own distinctive piano-style. This is a concert that fuses two musical worlds into one tour to celebrate the evolution of contemporary Afro music. Zap Mama mixes African vocal techniques with European polyphony while Antibalas seams Afrobeat with New York City Latin funk and traditional drumming of Cuba and West Africa.
