JAN. 22—The Pittsburgh Commission on Human Relations will host a Community Forum from 6:30-8 p.m. at Central Northside Banquet Hall, 302 W. North Ave., North Side. The PCHR is looking for an new executive director and is inviting the public to come out and offer input regarding the city’s needs surrounding who will fill the position. Summit Against Racism
JAN. 24—The Summit Against Racism Committee will host its 17th Annual Summit Against Racism from 8 a.m.-3:3-0 p.m. at East Liberty Presbyterian Church, 116 S. Highland Ave., East Liberty. The theme is “Ferguson to Pittsburgh: Challenges Ahead for the Racial Justice Movement.” The event will include workshops, panel discussions, information tables, education and strategies for racial justice, and much more. Community Cancer Screening
JAN. 24—The Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute will host a Community Cancer Screening from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Allegheny Health Network & Wellness Pavilion, 12311 Perry Highway, Wexford. This event is being held in an effort to help residents reduce their cancer risk through early detection and learn about the disease from experienced medical professionals. Mentoring Round Table
JAN. 24—The 100 Black Men will host its Mentoring Round Table Session from 12-2 p.m. at the Community College of Allegheny County, Tom Forester Student Service Center, 808 Ridge Ave., North Side. The event will include author Davon Kelly of Novad Consulting Company as the special guest. Community Meeting
JAN. 26—Pittsburgh Arena Real Estate Redevelopment will host a Community Meeting from 6-8 p.m. at the Jeron X. Grayson Community Center, 1852 Enoch St., Hill District. This meeting invites the community to participate in a charette for the U.S. Steel world headquarters on the former Civic Arena site and to meet the developer. African-American Heritage Celebration
FEB. 7—Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust Inc. will host its 5th Annual African-American Heritage Celebration, “Black Veterans With Success: Their History, Health and Commitment to Excellence,” at 1 p.m. at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum, Gettysburg Room, 4141 Fifth Ave., Oakland. There will be a panel discussion; a question and answer session about VA health care and other specific military health related issues; and an exhibit, “Slave to Soldier,” showcasing the importance of the historical legacy of African-American soldiers.
