Youth Hockey Clinic
JAN. 12—The Penn Hills YMCA will host a Youth Hockey Clinic at 6 p.m. at the Penn Hills YMCA, 11817 Frankstown Rd., Penn Hills. The clinic is designed to teach kids ages 5-8 the skills and techniques needed to play the game of hockey. Registration is required. Black College Tour
JAN. 15—Applications are due for NEED’s 9th Annual Historical Black College Tour to take place in Spring 2015. High school students in grades 10th and 11th are invited to participate in a tour that will take them to 14 historically Black colleges and universities in seven eastern and southeastern states. In their application, students must include an official copy of their transcript and a letter of recommendations from their principal or guidance counselor. For more information, call 412-566-2760.
Spirit of King
JAN. 15—Port Authority of Allegheny County, the Kingsley Association, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New Pittsburgh Courier will host the 2015 Spirit of King Awards Ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Kingsley Association, 6435 Frankstown Ave., East Liberty. The morning will honor the late K. Leroy Irvis and the late Anderson Little. The event posthumously honors local leaders who exemplify the spirit of the late Rev. Operation Home
JAN. 17—The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh will host its Operation Home Program from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Urban League, 2nd floor, 610 Wood St., Downtown. This intense monthly seminar on homeownership is designed to educate prospective homebuyers and arm them with the basic knowledge to navigate the path to mortgage qualification and maintaining homeownership. Saturday University
JAN. 17—-Community Empowerment Association in collaboration with Community Partners will host “Saturday University: A Developmental Experience and Safe Place for Black Boys and Girls” from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at CEA, 7120 Kelly St., Homewood. This event is an opportunity to give young people a voice through athletics and social support systems.
