
On Nov. 22, at the Syria Center in Cheswick, hundreds gathered for the Iota Phi Foundation Annual Achievement Awards Dinner. The Iota Phi Foundation is an affiliate of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. With the dynamic Lynn Hayes-Freeland as mistress of ceremonies, more than a dozen honors were presented to groups and individuals that have made a difference in the greater Pittsburgh community.
The 2014 Achievement Honorees included:

Alexander Nichols—Exemplary Service Award for Business;
Dr. William Simmons of Gateway Medical Society —Exemplary Service for Medicine;
Dr. Monica Lamar—Exemplary Service Award for Education;

MAD DADS—Exemplary Service Award for Community Advocacy;

Reverend Glenn Grayson—Citizen of the Year;
Black Male Leadership Development Institute—Exemplary Service Award for Leadership Development;

The Heinz Endowments—Exemplary Service Award for Philanthropy;
Valerie McDonald Roberts—Sylvester Pace Humanitarian Award;

Rod Doss on behalf of The New Pittsburgh Courier—Civil Rights Vanguard Award;
William B. Edmondson—Lifetime AchieveÂment Award;
Evan Frazier—Barack Obama Leadership Award;

Charlie Batch— Sportsperson of the Year Award; and

Jabari Weatherspoon—Omega Man of the Year Award

In addition to the achievement honorees, five accomplished individuals received scholarships. The the Iota Phi Foundation Scholars were: Rieko Copeland, Cierra Fontenot, Natalie Heywood, Jade Reese and Todd Sekowski. It was an evening of dining, dancing and purpose with all proceeds funding the Social Action and Scholarship Programs of the Iota Phi Foundation.
