When the Hill House named their school Passport Academy Charter School, no one thought that this would come to ring true, but three of its students will be applying for their International Passports and packing up to go to Ireland in July.
In honor of its 50th Anniversary, the Hill House Association is taking a 10-day tour of Ireland and opened up the application to their students. The three young women: Cierra Grubb, 17; Queen Green, 16; and Chartice Grubb, 16, applied, interviewed and were accepted to be a part of this culturally enriching trip.
Terri Baltimore, director of Community Engagement at the Hill House Association, said the students “demonstrated leadership, outstanding poise and were very well spoken at their interviews. They represented the school very well should be very proud.”
The trip is made possible by a $10,000 grant given to the Hill House by McAuley Ministries, the grant making foundation of Pittsburgh Mercy Health System. In all, McAuley announced on Dec. 11 that it had awarded $356,425 in grants to 10 area nonprofits serving the Hill District, Uptown and West Oakland.
In addition to the Hill House, other recipients included Pittsburgh Green Innovators, Strong Women Strong Girls, Small Seeds Development, NeighborWorks and Friendship Community Presbyterian Church.
