Pitt Law School Dean William M. Carter Jr. has been awarded the Leadership Diversity Award from the National Diversity Council and the Pennsylvania Diversity Council. He was recognized at the 2014 Leadership Excellence Awards Luncheon at the University of Pittsburgh.
The honor recognizes individuals with an extraordinary background of developing and improving organizations, has served as a role model for others in the profession, and has fostered innovative practices and visions.
Carter has served as Pitt’s Law School Dean since July 2012. An award-winning teacher, he is widely respected for his scholarship in constitutional law, international human rights law, and issues of social justice.
Prior to arriving at Pitt, Carter served as a professor of law at Temple University’s Beasley School of Law and served on the faculty of Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He has been published in such highly respected law journals as the Columbia Law Review, the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review, the International Journal of Constitutional Law, and the UCLA Law Review.
Carter earned his bachelor’s degree at Bowling Green State University and his law degree, with high honors, from Case Western Reserve University School of Law
