Singer. Writer. Arranger. Producer. Multi instrumentalist. Chris Jasper does it all.
With his 11th solo release entitled “The One,” he showcases all of his talents and abilities and what he created was an album reminiscent of his days with the super, self-contained groups The Isley Brothers and Isley-Jasper-Isley.
“I wanted people who didn’t know my contributions to the Isley-Jasper-Isley music to know what I can do. They’ll know by listening to this CD,” explained Jasper who hails from Cincinnati but resides in Upstate New York. “I learned an awful lot when I was recording with Isley-Jasper-Isley and The Isley Brothers. I learned a lot about recording. For the first seven years of it, the band would be in studio and record together but now the technology allows me to complete an album and record the instruments. Artists that write and produce their own music are the trend setters.”
That’s exactly what The Isley Brothers and Isley-Jasper-Isley were.
The Jasper and Isley families lived in the same apartment complex in Cincinnati and Chris’ older sister, Elaine, married Rudolph Isley. The three older Isley Brothers—Rudolph, O’Kelly and Ronald—formed a vocal trio, The Isley Brothers and relocated to Teaneck, NJ. While temporarily living in New Jersey as a teenager, Chris and the two younger Isley Brothers—Marvin and Ernie—formed The Jazzmen Trio, which played heavily in the Jersey area. Jasper served as keyboardist while Ernie played guitar and Marvin played the bass.
