Though the weather was inhospitable and the crowd small, its participants were passionate as they expressed outrage at last week’s grand jury decision in Ferguson, Mo., that failed to indict White police officer Darren Wilson for shooting Black teen Michael Brown.
The protest, organized by members of the Community College of Allegheny County Black Student Union and the Marxist Student Association, included participants from the general student body and also attracted young and old, Black and White, friends and neighbors to the rally at the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Brighton Road on Pittsburgh’s North Side.

Carrying signs bearing biblical passages, the raised hands “don’t shoot” imagery, “Stand with Ferguson,” “It’s Right To Rebel,” and the Malcolm X quote, “You can’t have capitalism without racism,” the organizers called for solidarity with the Ferguson protestors and changes to a “broken” justice system.
On Friday, Dec. 5, Pittsburgh Students Against Police Brutality will hold another solidarity rally at 5 p.m. in Schenley Plaza at 4100 Forbes Ave. in Oakland.
