Congratulations go out to the Hill District SHOP ‘n SAVE for its one-year anniversary of success. I remember the Phoenix Hill Mall celebration after their first year. It was great.
What am I saying?
It’s great what the community has achieved, especially the Hill House, and politicians Sala Udin, Danny Lavelle, Jake Wheatley and even Bill Robinson. Yes all these people have been fighting for more than 30 years to get another full service grocery store in the Hill District after the Phoenix Hill store under the Hicks family went out of business, crushing many dreams.
If this store is going to remain a bright star in the middle of a Black community it will not necessarily be because of the Hill House, City Councilmen, state representatives, county executive or the mayor. No its destiny and success, its profits, will depend on the people of the Hill District and the surrounding communities. For you see the Hill District SHOP ‘n SAVE is a business whose success or failure will depend on how many customers and how much they spend in the store.
