Hill of Hope Gala
NOV. 15—The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh will host its 7th Annual Hill of Hope Gala from 6-10 p.m. at the Marriott City Center, 112 Washington Place, Uptown. The theme is “Embracing Community Diversity.” The gala will celebrate the rich cultural history of Pittsburgh’s Hill District and highlight the role of the YMCA in the African American civic and cultural life in Pittsburgh. Several local leaders who are working to revitalize urban communities will be honored. Also, Andrew Frazier, a longtime activist, will be recognized with board emeritus status. Reservations required. Keepers of the Flame
NOV. 15—The Legacy Arts Project will host its 8th Annual Keepers of the Flame Awards at 7:30 p.m. at the Hill House Kaufmann Auditorium, 1825 Centre Ave., Hill District. Culture makers of Pittsburgh’s rich African and African-American heritage will be recognized for their contributions in art, social justice, education and visionary leadership. This year’s honorees are Chico Butler, Dr. and Mrs. Johnson, Helen Baynes, Joyce Meggerson-Moore, Poggie Bell and William “Oba” Wells. Community Conversation
NOV. 17—The Black Political Empowerment Project, the Alliance for Police Accountability, the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh and others will host a Community Conversation with Pittsburgh’s New Acting Police Chief Cameron McLay from 6:30-8 p.m. at Pentecostal Temple COCIC, 6300 E. Information Fair
NOV. 22—The Fund for the Advancement of Minorities through Education (FAME) will host an Information Fair from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Kingsley Association, 6435 Frankstown Ave., East Liberty.
