The Fund for Advancement of Minorities through Education’s Annual Informational Fair will take place on Saturday, Nov. 22. Attendees will learn what college-preparatory education opportunities African-American students can access through FAME’s independent partner schools and the programmatic support. It will take place at the Kingsley Association in East Liberty, 6435 Frankstown Ave., Pittsburgh from 10 a.m. until 12 noon.
FAME is an active participant and stakeholder in the education equity and access discussion. Particularly, the demand for school choice and the struggles of the public school system, FAME’s work—to address the need and keep finances from being the barrier around the best educational institutions in Pittsburgh—is vital.
Current scholars represent many school districts in the area, including: Gateway, McKeesport, Penn Hills, Pittsburgh Public Schools, Seneca, Sto-Rox, Wilkinsburg, and Woodland Hills. FAME welcomes talented and motivated students and families to the Information Fair to introduce them to our partner schools: The Ellis School, The Kiski School, Shady Side Academy, St. Edmund’s Academy, Western Reserve Academy, and The Winchester Thurston School.
FAME’s mission is to provide African-American students access to college preparatory education at participating independent schools in the greater Pittsburgh area through the provision of need-based financial assistance. FAME also provides support to scholars and alumni throughout their academic careers. Ultimately, through this work, FAME’s intention is to increase the number of African-American leaders in the greater Pittsburgh region.
