Actor James Vincent Meredith couldn’t stop laughing when he read the script for the “Book of Mormon.”
“My agent sent me the script to read and said ‘trust me, you’ve gotta read this.’ I read it, cracked up and read it again. I couldn’t believe that this was on stage and wasn’t shut down,” said Meredith who was born and raised in Chicago where he still resides.
That fateful script reading was Meredith’s first experience with the cultural phenomenon that is the “Book of Mormon,” which was created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone the four-time Emmy Award winning creators of the groundbreaking animated series, “South Park” and Robert Lopez, the Tony Award winning co-creator of the long-running hit musical comedy, “Avenue Q.”
“Book of Mormon” tells the story of two young Mormon missionaries sent to Uganda to recruit new members to the faith. Along the way the missionaries and the Africans learn that friendship and faith trump color and stereotypes.
