Presley L. Gillespie has been hired as the first president of Neighborhood Allies, a local community development organization that focuses on incorporating people-based and place-based strategies into its work. He will take the helm in mid-May 2014. Gillespie is a nationally recognized leader in the field of community and economic development, and was most recently the founding executive director of the Youngstown Community Development Corporation (YCDC), the first city-wide community development corporation in Youngstown, Ohio.
In announcing Gillespie’s appointment, board co-chairs Laurel Shaw Randi and Rob Stephany said that he brings a unique blend of private sector banking and finance experience as well as nonprofit leadership to this role. Prior to his work at the YCDC, Gillespie enjoyed a successful 18-year banking career, primarily focused on community development lending and community revitalization.
“We are thrilled that Presley will be the inaugural president of Neighborhood Allies,” Randi said. “He brings a deep understanding of and passion for neighborhoods of promise, and the opportunities and challenges they face. Presley is a dynamic and experienced entrepreneur who measures success by the extent people and places are improved.”
Neighborhood Allies’ mission is “to support the people, organizations and partnerships committed to creating and maintaining thriving neighborhoods.” The organization launched in 2013 with the purpose of including 21st century community development approaches and people-based strategies to help make Pittsburgh a livable community, with thriving neighborhoods for all living here.
