“From the Dream to Reality” was the theme for the Celebrating Black History Month program held at Pentecostal Temple COGIC in East Liberty last month. Evangelist Denise White, Education Ministry president, said this annual event acknowledges and features Black Americans locally, as well as nationally, that have made great contributions to their perspective communities as a society.
Reverend Dr. Herbert V.R.P. Jones, director of the Pittsburgh Gospel Choir and chairman of the event, conducted the choir and congregation in songs of tribute as well as the Black anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” He also introduced the evening’s service guide, Rev. Robin Pollard, assistant minister of Shiloh Community Baptist Church.
