The youth organizations of East Liberty celebrated the life of one of America’s most influential leaders, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jan. 19. Speakers stated that King would forever be joined to the likes of Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln as men who shaped America. So it was fitting that all paid homage to a man whom we must call the, “Founding Father” of Justice and Equality, for all, at the Kelly-Strayhorn theater. The event was sponsored by UPMC. Youth of all ages performed various staged performances themed with freedom of speech in honor of King. The students and neighboring youth gave rousing artistic expressions of hope and courage to be whatever they want to be. Artist from organizations, such as, 1 Hood Media, SOUNDWAVES Steelband, Dreams of Hope, Hope Academy Dance and C.H.A.N.C.E. treated the packed house to outstanding performances.
