Bingo, Whist and Bridge were some of the favorite games played at the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter card party. On Jan. 18, at the Monroeville Double Tree hotel, hundreds enjoyed a great afternoon that was just for the ladies. Prior to lunch ,the crowd viewed cleverly put together baskets that were part of the Chinese auction; many took chances on the lottery tree and the ever-popular 50/50 raffle. Doris Hilliard walked away with the lottery tree and made sure none of the “lottery leaves” fell off.
Helen Bowers served as a delightful mistress of ceremonies while Diana M. Jaden welcomed the group to the annual fundraiser. Carolyn Peterson was once again the feisty bingo caller and kept the crowd in stitches. Who has this much fun playing bingo? Marlene Cabiness and Rochelle Chatman served as event chairs.
This luncheon raises funds for many of the programs that Delta Sigma Theta Sorority sponsors, one of them being: Delta G.E.M.S (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully). Delta GEMS was created to catch the dreams of African-American at risk adolescent girls aged 14-18. Delta GEMS provides the framework to actualize those dreams through the performance of specific tasks that develop a can do attitude.
The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta ask that you mark your calendars for March 15 and attend the “Swing Into Spring” Dr. Vernell A. Lillie Arts Brunch and Fashion Show at the Monroeville Doubletree.
