
PITTSBURGH, Pa.—As the nation observes Black History Month this February, visitors to the Senator John Heinz History Center can journey through 250 years of African-American history as part of the museum’s award-winning exhibition, “From Slavery to Freedom,” presented by BNY Mellon and funded by the U.S. Department of Education Underground Railroad Education and Cultural Program.
Several new features have recently been added to the long-term exhibit, which chronicles the anti-slavery movement, the Underground Railroad, and the impact of 19th century activism on the modern quest for civil and human rights in Western Pa.
The exhibit has been updated with stunning audio/visual enhancements, interactive stations, and new artifacts, including:

An immersive area where visitors can experience the sights and sounds of the freedom seeker experience, including the types of food and plants that were consumed along their path to freedom;
