The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing held its 15th Annual “Cameos of Caring” Awards Gala honoring 73 nurses from participating health care facilities.
The School of Nursing developed the “Cameos of Caring” awards program in 1999 to celebrate the profession and to help alleviate the shortage of nurses by promoting nursing as a viable and rewarding career choice. With this year’s celebration, more than 750 nurses will have been recognized through this program.
Responding to studies that show a link between higher levels of nursing education and patient outcomes, the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing also established the Cameos of Caring Endowed Nursing Scholarship to support practicing nurses in continuing their education. The “Cameos of Caring” awards gala has raised more than $1 million for this scholarship program since the fund’s establishment in 2001. Including this year’s awardees, 204 Cameos of Caring Scholarships will have been awarded. Mike Clark, WTAE news anchor was emcee.
