And of course it’s all done in the memory of the late great Karl Kohlman, who did more for basketball in western Pennsylvania than all of us put together. And over on the diamond, next to where Reizenstein used to be, you can see some great little league baseball action.

The Champions All-Star Basketball Team (Thus the team name… “Champions”…Duh!) will beat up on John Bettis and the Savoy All-Star team. Now of course, John will use his and Chuck Sanders’ considerable influence to recruit who-knows-who, including some ex-Detroit Pistons named “Isaiah” or “Dumars.” But no matter, we got Myron Brown and Warren Wilson and we go from there. Look for the game Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Thelma Lovette Centre Avenue YMCA as a part of the Connie Hawkins Basketball League Summer Slam featuring middle school, high school and pro games starring the Pittsburgh Bullets. Warm up them ribs chef Kevin…Here comes the Champions!

:03 The Armon Gilliam Memorial “Hard Work” Summer Youth Basketball Camp, co-sponsored by the Penn Hills YMCA, the Omega Psi Phi Alumni Fraternity (A.K.A. Q’s), United Steelworkers, Chuck Sanders Charities and the Penn Avenue McDonalds will be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3 and 4, at the Penn Hills YMCA, 9 a.m. sharp to 3 p.m. sharp, both days.
