Young cats with a new sound and style is how Big Daddy Kane describes his new group, Las Supper.

“Right now hip-hop is going through a cleaning process. We are bringing something different and unique. It’s feel good music that reflects back to good times when songs had conscious lyrics. We were trying to capture the vintage sound of the 60’s and 70’s. I like the vibe of Motown,” said Kane who became a household name in the 1980’s as a member of the Cold Chillin’ Juice Crew.

Kane, who was born in Brooklyn as Antonio Hardy, chose his unique moniker because of his fascination with martial arts movies and his love of the character Vincent Price portrayed in “Beach Party.”

His debut album, “Long Live the Kane” featured the hit song, “Ain’t No Half Steppin’.” His second effort,”It’s A Big Daddy Thing”– which is his most successful record to date–included the singles “I Get the Job Done” and “Smooth Operator.” Kane was the first rapper to have two sold out women-only shows at the famed Apollo Theater. He has earned three gold albums and a Grammy award.

Kane parlayed his musical success into movie gold by playing in such movies as “The Meteor Man” and “Posse.”

“I’ve been around throughout the years traveling and touring with MC Lyte and Whodini at theaters and coliseums in many states. I’d love to come back to Pittsburgh. The last time I was there was when that ‘Black and Yellow’ song came out and the crowd there was energetic,” he said.
Although he hasn’t had any mainstream songs released in the last decade, Big Daddy Kane is not worried about losing relevance in the rap game.

“Cats have great catalogues from the past and they can tour for the rest of their life,” he said.

Kane believes he will find a new audience with Las Supper.

The nine-member Las Supper group released its debut album, “Back to the Future” in March of this year. It is available on MP 3, itunes and at amazon.com.

Kane showcases his vocal prowess on “Back to the Future” with verses and bridges on the 12-song record.

“The album has been getting great reviews. On iTunes it got five stars. People are supporting it,” said Kane who lives in North Carolina with his wife.

The group is made up of New York-based Lifted Crew and vocalist Show Tyme who is a legend in his own right.

The singer, songwriter and producer have worked with Case, Donell Jones, Kelly Price, Musiq Soulchild and others.

In addition to Kane and Show Tyme, Las Supper is completed with members of Lifted Crew, a New York City hip-hop band that effortlessly mixes funk soul and R & B.

They will embark on a tour in July before releasing its second single.

“We’re trying to say if you want vintage soul and hip-hop, you may as well eat up because this may be your last supper,” Kane said. “If people eat up, we’ll move forward and we’ll continue.’
