MCKEESPORT, Pa. (AP) — Police say a jitney driver was fatally shot after picking up a passenger at a western Pennsylvania housing complex and that it may have been a case of mistaken identity.
Investigators say it happened around 12:10 a.m. Wednesday in McKeesport, just outside Pittsburgh. Allegheny County authorities say the driver, 59-year-old John Haas, was leaving the complex with a passenger when he was shot once in the head. He later died at a hospital.
Allegheny County police Lt. Andrew Schurman says Haas may have been mistaken for a gang member. Shurman says his vehicle closely resembles that of a gang member who may be involved in ongoing shootings in the area, shootings believed to be part of an ongoing dispute among rival drug organizations.
No arrests have been announced.
