Despite an injured right hand, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough led Hopewell (24-2) to a 50-34 victory against South Park (22-3) to win the Class AAA title at the Palumbo Center.
Walker-Kimbrough scored 35 points, one more than the entire South Park team, and plans to keep shooting down the competition.
The 5-foot-11 junior guard ranks alongside Gateway’s Destiny Brown, a Baylor recruit, as the top two players in the WPIAL.
“We had one goal: come out with the gold,” Walker-Kimbrough said. “When I was in 9th grade we lost in the WPIAL championship game. I never want to experience that again.”
It is her strength and fortitude to push beyond limitations that allows Walker-Kimbrough to maximize her potential.
Hopewell can win a state championship and Walker-Kimbrough is willing to put her John Hancock on it.
