Brashear and Westinghouse clawed out close victories to qualify as semi-final teams this season. After Courier press time Feb. 21, each team will square off against the teams with the best regular season records this year in Allderdice and USO. (University Prep, Sci-Tech, and Obama).

Allderdice’s coach Andre McDonald, a Westinghouse alum, will face off against the Bulldogs. If his Dragons are victorious, they’ll move on to the Feb. 25 City title game in an attempt to three-peat as champs.
“Westinghouse is indicative to it’s culture,” McDonald said. “They’re tough and they don’t go away easily.”
Their first matchup this season, Allderdice won easily, blowing out the East End school by 40. But, true to McDonald’s statement, Westinghouse came back in their second bout after being down by as many as 17 to surrender a more subtile 65-59 margin.
“They’re going to come out of the gates rough,” McDonald added. “I don’t expect this to be an easy win for us. We are going to have to put our best out there and play until the end.”
One of the best players the league has to offer, Allderdice senior Justin Dobbs, will not be available to play in the semifinal game.
“During our senior night, Justin was called for two technical fouls,” the coach said. This causes for a player to be ejected and automatically suspended for one game. We will miss Justin, but we’re going to have to rely on the guys that we gave to pull it out for us.”
Brashear stunned Carrick with a 66-65 win to move on and face Obama Academy, who will look to complete a storybook first season with a city championship.
On the girls side, Allderdice’s best record gave them a first-round bye and they will take on Carrick in the semi’s. The Lady Bulldogs will do business with USO. Both games took place on Feb. 20, before press time.
The Feb 25 Boys City League Championship game will be streamed live on the Westmoreland Sports Network on their website at www.westmorelandsports.com.
