On Dec. 16 at the Churchill Valley Country Club, The Ivy Charitable Endowment (ICE) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. (Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter) held their biennial “Precious to Cultured Pearls” Presentation Ball.
The event marked the third cotillion sponsored by the ICE (the first was held in 2007 and the following was held in 2009). The Ivy Charitable Endowment Cotillion sponsors young ladies from throughout the Pittsburgh region while they learn etiquette, higher education, life skills development, social responsibility, service learning and career development.
To date, approximately 30 girls have participated in this event. This year, 11 young ladies were presented to society: La’ Sha Akers, Maya Davis, Sarah Evans, Larissa Hill, Danielle Ruple, Dia Scott, Brandi Sparrow, Bria Sparrow, Monica Woods, Bry’Anna Woodson and Jordyn Zechender.
The escorts were: Canaan Reid, Michael Williams, Myles Catlin, Rondell Harris, Elijah Walker, D’Andre Caviness, Elisha Hill, Elijah Hill, Tyelre Davis, Joshua Grate and Joshua Lockridge. Wayne Walters, principal of Barack Obama Academy of International Studies, served as the master of ceremonies.
Community service awards in the form of $1,500 checks were presented to Small Seeds Development Inc., Every Child Inc. and Allegheny Youth Development. The beautiful young ladies and their escorts participated in a waltz choreographed by renowned choreographer Tony Dixon.
