‘Dance For Life’ Cotillion

A Second Chance Inc., Three Rivers Youth and The Eden Hall Foundation partnered to present “A Dance for Life,” a program to help female youth acquire valuable life skills. “A Dance for Life” engages 19 kinship and foster system adolescent girls aged 15-18 in a ten-week teen pregnancy prevention program. The program culminated with a cotillion presentation to the participant’s families and the Greater Pittsburgh community.

A DANCE FOR LIFE

The “A Dance for Life” Cotillion was held Nov. 5, at the Doubletree Hotel in Monroeville. WPXI TV News Reporter Vince Sims was the Master of Ceremonies and the event drew more than 300 guests.

This collaboration between three well-established and respected organizations (A Second Chance Inc., Three Rivers Youth, and The Eden Hall Foundation) has a far reaching impact beyond the 19 primary participants. The program will not only have an impact on short-term and long-term positive youth decision-making, but it will also engage participating families. A secondary participant group of 19 pre-adolescent girls aged 10-13 will also benefit from a mentoring relationship with the adolescent girls.

The program is designed to help participants acquire skills to help them navigate through life. It is an early intervention program covering a variety of areas, including: Pregnancy Prevention, Social Development, Communication, Self-esteem, Etiquette and Fine Dining. At the end of the 10-weeks, participants learn to do the Waltz (a dance that they probably would not learn outside of the program).
