Love, honesty, praising God and embracing your purpose are the themes of gospel songstress Jessica Reedy’s debut album, “From the Heart,” which premiered at #1 on the Christian and Gospel iTunes Charts.
“To God be the glory,” exclaimed Reedy. “I didn’t do anything. This was all God. I never thought this would happen. I wanted to be an R & B singer, but I didn’t doubt that when I became saved God humbled me. I was content that God had me in his hand.”

Reedy first stepped onto the scene as a season two contestant of BET’s “Sunday Best.” Although she didn’t end up bringing home the coveted winning title, she won something much more vital: She found her purpose.
“I bless God and I raise up Jesus’ name. I am so honored by God. I’ve changed and matured spiritually. God is teaching me how to open my spiritual eyes to see things and let people know who Jesus is. He has transformed my mind and my body. He’s helped me find my boldness and made my weak man strong. I love the Lord and I am not ashamed of that,” Reedy said.
Before “Sunday Best,” Reedy didn’t have such a positive outlook on life or her career. She gave up her life-long aspiration of becoming a singer to take a job as a technician to have money to raise her son.
“I had a low point where I thought my voice was shot. I was a college dropout and I was pregnant and I would just cry and cry and I couldn’t sleep for almost a year. I was depressed and I cried out to the Lord and asked him to give me a good night’s sleep,” she said.
That good night’s sleep led to a fluke try out of “Sunday’s Best.”
“I took my friend to the audition and I sat in the lobby and they gave me a number,” Reedy recalls. “I said I was going to sing and sit down but I got picked. That’s why you saw me cry on each episode. I realized God loved me and had this planned from the beginning.”
She wants listeners to learn that vital lesson through her music.
“The message of my album is that God loves you. The things you think you need to pay for have already been paid for,” she said. “We can talk to God and thank him for forgiveness.
“I want people to know they are loved. If they knew that, they would look at things and themselves differently. I don’t think the Bible is done. I had an encounter with God and this is my chapter of the Bible,” she continued.
For “From the Heart,” Reedy enlisted the help of friends The Soul Seekers to appear on the great Quartet-style “Still Here,” which was written by Doug Williams of the Williams Brothers. Other gems on the record include “When I Close My Eyes,” “So In Love With You (Amazing)” and “When I Close My Eyes.”
“I believe that God knows his children and he created music. We are all supposed to use whatever gifts God gave us to glorify the kingdom and spread the good news,” Reedy continued. “As I grow, I’m going to tell the people what God tells me. I have no idea what’s happening. I’m doing what God tells me to do.”
