Worst dressed

I’m sure you have heard by now that Pittsburgh, home to thousands of loyal Steelers fans, came in third in the GQ Magazine worst dressed list, the reason: for its citizens’ “utter sloppiness” in sartorial choices, which can be described as a perpetual “Game Day Casual.” Chicago and Manhattan rounded out the top five.

Well I sure don’t care about Chicago or Manhattan but it pains me to see people dressed poorly anywhere. There is so much fashion available and it sure seems like people like to look at fashionable people but seem to be afraid to be one of those fashionistas.

Every night I say a silent prayer that the sagging pants style (can you even call it a style?) will go away. There have been styles that have come along with every generation that are quirky and innovative. Think about a pack of cigarettes rolled up in the sleeve of a tee shirt, cutting the neck off of a sweat shirt (think “Flash Dance”), rolling up the sleeves of a blazer or coat that is too big and revealing the lining of the coat. The latter two styles became so popular that manufacturers starting creating the items as ready to wear.

I’ve said this before and I’m saying it again, there is nothing stylish about sagging pants. It’s not cute, it’s not sexy and it looks nasty. Who wants to see someone’s underwear? Half the time the underwear doesn’t look clean and the person wearing these sagging jeans has to continually hold them up or pull them up, this looks absolutely stupid to me. Just like we don’t want to see your underwear nor do people want to see the crack of your behind. Please say no to crack and pull up those pants or get a pair that fits.

Ladies this goes for you also, we don’t need to know you are wearing a thong. Lately I’ve noticed that young ladies have been going out with silk bonnets on their heads. What happened, did the ladies sit around and say we need something that looks just as bad as sagging pants? I think the purpose of the bonnet is the same as a “do-rag” to keep the hair in order or to keep the weave straight. If that is the case, wear it in the house. Why are people coming out of the house in bonnets, do-rags and pajama bottoms? They look like they just rolled out of bed. There is no reason to look this bad.

I went to a beautiful restaurant the other night. A beautiful place called Nola in Market Square, not a fast food place, a restaurant with valet parking. People were walking in with flip-flops and cut off shorts, they looked a mess. I don’t get it, the world has become way too casual, every place is not dress down. Instead of all of these “dress down” days we should have a dress up day once a week. I’m sure this will make people act differently as well.

Here is a fashion tip for ladies and men, if you are going to wear sandals and flip-flops every day get a pedicure. If you cannot afford one buy an emery board and a bottle of nail polish and soak your feet. Let’s prove we aren’t the worst dressed.
