WASHINGTON, Pa.—Officials from The Meadows Racetrack & Casino today presented a check in the amount of $42,500 to the Mel Blount Foundation as the result of the first Mel Blount Charity Blackjack Tournament and a recent golf outing.
The April tournament featured 120 blackjack players and 24 celebrities, including Pittsburgh Steelers greats J.T. Thomas, Robin Cole, Andy Russell, Brett Keisel, to name a few. The event’s $50,000 First Prize was split, with $25,000 paid to the winner and $25,000 donated to the Foundation. Mel Blount was the Master of Ceremonies.

“This tournament not only benefited a great cause, it was a great experience for everyone in attendance, as guests enjoyed playing alongside current Steelers and rubbing elbows with their childhood Steelers heroes,” Meadows Vice President and General Manager Sean Sullivan said. “This type of event is typical of both the Steelers and The Meadows, and we expect it to become a growing annual tradition at The Meadows.”
A welcome reception kicked off the tournament, which also included a silent auction. Cash prizes were awarded to the Top Six finishers. The Second Place winner received $5,000, and third place won $2,500. Half of all winning proceeds were donated to the Mel Blount Foundation, which support’s Blount’s Youth Home.
