The Dignity and Respect Campaign believes that inclusion begins with the core belief that everyone deserves dignity and respect. Originally envisioned as an internal UPMC program, the Dignity and Respect Campaign expanded to a community-wide effort in October 2009.

The first Dignity & Respect Fall Festival was held recently at the Schenley Plaza. The Dignity and Respect Champion Awardees were: February—Will Thompkins of the Pittsburgh Project; March—Nieves Stiker of Community Education, Carlow University. April—Esther Haguel of Northside Urban Pathways Charter School; May—Leonard Carter of Conroy Education Center; June—Alan Jones of the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force; July—Linda Demoise of Investing Now; August—Michael Smith, CEO of Goodwill; September—Barbara Murock of Human Services at Allegheny County.
Keynote speakers at the event were: Ruth Byrd-Smith—Director of Allegheny County Minority Women; Candi Castleberry-Singleton—UPMC Chief Inclusion Officer; Denise Jones—Venango County Chief Clerk and County Administrator; Dr. Patrick Swift—Author, Psychologist, NYU School of Medicine Faculty; Susan Williams—Executive Director, Venango Chamber; Dawnita Wilson—Program Director, Inclusion Initiative at UPMC.
