The Pittsburgh branch of the NAACP held its 8th annual Freedom Sunday Worship Service at the Pentecostal Temple COGIC in East Liberty, where Rev. Dr. Loran Mann, is pastor.
Reverend Mann was the presiding pastor, an organ prelude was performed by Craig Wade with Pentecostal Praise and Worship Choir. A procession of clergy and other executives was followed by the invocation by Rev. Dr. David B. Thornton, pastor of Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church.
“Lift Every Voice and Sing” and Freedom Sunday Litnay was presented by Rev. Barbara Gunn, pastor, Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in North Versailles.
The reading of the scriptures was by Rev. Dr. Randall Bush, East Liberty Presbyterian Church, and Rev. B. Denise Welch, Bidwell Presbyterian Church. M. Gayle Moss, president Pittsburgh Branch of the NAACP, greeted everyone, followed by Rev. Dr. Darryl T. Canady, Rodman Street Missionary Church, who led the prayer.
After musical selections by the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church choir. Bishop Donald O. Clay Jr., Petra International Ministries, received the Pastor of the Year honor. Rev. Dr. Eugene M. Downing Jr., Sixth Mt. Zion Baptist Church, was the keynote speaker.
